How Can We Make Net Zero Happen?
Day 2 of the conference took aim at a key question: How can we make net zero happen? The energy transition is gaining momentum, and ensuring alignment across companies, energy stakeholders, and governments is critical to meeting ambitious climate and sustainability goals by 2050.
Today's Top Takes
With 10+ sessions today dedicated to climate, it was nearly impossible to avoid conversations on sustainability and surrounding influences. While in some ways a thoroughly discussed topic, the context surrounding sustainability remains dynamic and responsive to market signals and needs.
Today's discussions brought the global climate strategy into focus: investing today in solutions that will enable us to reach net zero by 2050. Our CEO, Bill Newsom, outlined how to reach sustainability goals while balancing other factors often at odds with achieving climate goals such as affordability, security, and accessibility. He shared three key priorities: creating a hydrogen ecosystem, creating a carbon capture ecosystem, and decarbonizing existing infrastructure.

We learned more about accelerating actions toward sustainability such as leveraging policy like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and improving energy access while combating climate change. By investing in a wide variety of solutions — and a diverse network of collaborators across industries, geographies, and generations — we can drive down the cost curve and scale the technologies that will help us achieve net zero.
Mitsubishi Power and MHI shared plans for a new carbon-capture partnership with Warwick Carbon Solutions and Kiewit Corporation. A joint FEED study among these partners will bring together cutting-edge gas turbines, proprietary carbon capture technology, and expertise in energy infrastructure to address how to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries.
