Welcome to CERAWeek!

The first day of CERAWeek brought with it a host of innovative, new ideas about how to approach – and navigate – the risks and opportunities of the multidimensional energy transition.

Today's Top Takes

Is the global energy transition even more complicated than we originally thought? This kicked off CERAWeek 2024 as Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman for S&P Global, and Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Secretary of Energy, outlined the road map for the multidimensional, multi-speed, and multi-fuel energy transition.

In a standing-room-only keynote session, Sec. Granholm's analysis of recent shocks, crises, and other issues such as energy investment and policy highlighted the need to develop an energy transition path that is more inclusive of a sector-by-sector approach. She focused on two truths of the energy transition: together, we have to meet the energy needs of today and work to create the energy systems of tomorrow.

These two truths underpinned conversations throughout the day.

Plenary sessions explored the current state of the industry, covering key topics like market drivers, collaborating to address the financial challenges of the energy transition, and the growing number of opportunities for oil and gas companies to invest in – and help scale – renewable energy solutions.

Our own Kai Guo, SVP, Hydrogen Infrastructure Development – West Region, advanced the conversation around decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors noting that the market demands a diverse, versatile, and innovative approach with an underlying commitment to safety, grid flexibility, and energy security.

We’ve known the energy transition can’t happen with a simple, single solution – today’s conversations about the multidimensional energy transition we are facing, are why we gather at this event to share learnings, insights, and innovations.

With leaders and experts like Bill Gates hosting sessions throughout the week, we look forward to advancing the conversations that will help shape the future of the energy industry.
